We now have/had 2 ducks. They were rescued from Aark. Chuck the Duck was just about full grown when someone dropped her off with an injured wing. Aark took care of the wing and I brought her home. After a few months, she started laying eggs and has been faithful ever since with an egg every day. Frankie came to the Aark as a baby. Someone found him wondering around an apartment complex. He was a really dark brown with a little white bowtie. I wasn’t sure what he would grow up to be or if he was male or female. He grew into a beautiful male Khaki Campbell. The same as Chuck. They are inseparable. The are voracious eaters and dirty their water as soon as its put out. They are a lot of work but fun to watch, so completely worth it!

I had brought Chuck home from the Aark in May of 2016. Frankie came home with me in April of 2017. They were a great couple! I would let them out in our pool area every day where they could forage all over and wallow in the water pumped off of the pool cover. They could then come when I called “Chuck the Duck, Chuck the Duck!…” and I would walk them back to their shelter in the barn.

January 13, 2019, I walked them over to the pool area and came inside for breakfast like I usually do. When I sat in the Sunroom, I saw a fox trotting up the walk! I jumped in my crocs and ran outside. Frankie was under the sunroom and came out and jumped into my arms. I called and called, but couldn’t find Chuck anywhere! I took Frankie back to his shelter and put all of the chickens away. It had snowed a little that morning. John found a little blood and feathers out in the field. That was a horrible day. I truly loved Chuck. She was such a friendly duck.

I never let Frankie out again. I posted online about him and found someone who had a lot of ducks, to take him. It’s so hard having animals.
